Mission Statement

At the Arabic Learner Academy, our primary objective for teaching Qur’anic Arabic, Arabic language and Culrue is to create learning venues that promote excellence and lead to the development of well-rounded learners—namely, learners who are building strong language skills while developing intercultural competence and deep awareness of the issues facing the MENA region. Thus, the learning process is more than information acquisition and does not end with completing language learning. Rather, our learners develop strong ties to the language and remain fully connected and engaged; learning more about the Middle East fuels the desire of our learners to continue learning Arabic. In a nutshell, we seek to cultivate a passion for learning that expands beyond the classroom boundaries.

To achieve our goals, we aim to equip our learners with the necessary methods for maintaining their progress formally and informally, through both structured and unstructured learning. In our classrooms, time is dedicated to interactive, yet, structured learning. By practicing new vocabulary and applying grammatical structures designed for each level, our learners critically analyze concrete situations through negotiating meaning, practicing speaking, and engaging in group discussions and spontaneous reflections. Follow-up assignments invite learners to demonstrate their understanding through activities such as role-plays, presentations, translation projects, essays, journals, and short stories. Our topics encourage critical thinking and allow learners to work on projects in small groups, construct new ideas, discuss them among themselves and share them with their peers.

These multifaceted activities are facilitated by an intentional approach to classroom dynamics. Our teachers make effort to be audible, clear, and understandable when providing input to our learners. Such teaching skills go a long way toward creating a welcoming and collaborative environment where our learners practice language in every class meeting. At the same time, they become active agents of their own learning. We encourage our learners to engage in conversational dialogues, challenge them to provide peer reviews, oral feedback on each other’s work and also self-correction.

At the Arabic Learner Academy, we strive to create a learning environment that inspire our learners to become competent life-long learners who are developing a long-term passion for learning Arabic and also creating understanding of the Arab World, its people and its culture.
